Well, I've done it.
I told the principal where I am working that I won't be available as an SSO next year, because I am going to renew my teacher's registration.
Technically all I would have to do is mountains of paperwork and provide proof of my qualification (and name change, and crime-free status) and do a first-aid course, and I could be back in the classroom (well, actually I am already back in the classroom, but you know what I mean!).
But seeing as it has been ten years (?!!) since I last taught, I have decided that I would like to do the teacher refresher course that DECS run here in SA. It doesn't run until March next year, so I will have to wait until then.
I have been overwhelmed by the positive support I have received from my friends at school - both teachers and SSOs have been great, and seem to think it's about time I made up my mind to do this. I only hope that the course has enough numbers to run - the one that was scheduled for June this year was cancelled (see, I have been thinking about it for a LONG time now! LOL).
More than one staff member today pointed out to me that I don't HAVE to do the course, and if it doesn't run, I could just take the plunge and do it anyway......
It seems I am finally going to do it - after all this time.
One big advantage I will have???? NO SHORTAGE OF TEACHER STAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
