1001 books you must read before you die

Yogi gave me the above book for Christmas. I had seen it a couple of years ago, in an Angus and Robertson brochure and thought it a wonderful idea. So I have started. There are a few of the books I have already read, I will try to list them, but I may have missed some: (have also been terribly lazy and just gone by title, not author *slapping my own wrist* :

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Aesop's Fables
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Animal Farm
Anna Karenina
Around the World in Eighty Days
Day of the Triffids
The First Circle
Gone With the Wind
The Grapes of Wrath
Gulliver's Travels
The Hobbit
Jane Eyre
The Little Prince
Little Women
Lord of the Flies
The Lord of the Rings
Of Mice and Men
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
A Town Like Alice
Robinson Crusoe
Tess of the D'Urbervilles
The Three Musketeers
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
To Kill a Mockingbird
Treasure Island
Wuthering Heights.
So that's 28/1001....which leaves me with 973 books to go before I die. Best not make plans for my funeral - I could be here for a while!

But don't despair - I finished one today!
Our Mutual Friend - by Charles Dickens (published in 1865!!!!!)
At first I found it hard to 'get into' this book, mostly because of the difference in language from then to now, but once I got accustomed to their way of speaking, I really enjoyed this book. Took me several days (in fact, over a week) to read, which is unusual for me, but I am glad I read it. It is a bit like one of my favourite movies - "Love Actually"- in that there were lots of little stories about the characters, that were intertwined.
ok 972 to go...I have two here that I reserved at the library,
So will be back soon!
